The Department of Chemistry at the University of Helsinki is searching :
POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER for a three-year position starting 1.1.2011
We are lookingfor a talented and highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher, for a three-year position (2011-2013), based within the Department of Geosciences and Geography at the University of Helsinki. The appointee will participate full-time in a project “Impacts of climate change on Arctic vegetation and biodiversity” funded by the Academy of Finland.
This project will :
1) investigate dynamics and the main drivers of recent changes in the Arctic vegetation;
2) threats caused by climate change to Arctic plant diversity, and
3) develop projections of the changes in the Arctic plant biomass patterns under future climates.
The project will focus on subarctic and alpine ecosystems of the northernmost Europe and Eurasia. The project has defined key goals, but there is substantial room for independent and collaborative exploration of related topics in biogeography, macroecology, remote sensing and spatial modeling. The project will require the appointee to carry out field work in the summer months.
The starting salary will be 3 200 € per month.
The candidate is requested to:
1) have a Ph.D. with research experience in either physical geography, ecology or comparable fields
2) have profound understanding in multivariate data analysis and spatial modelling
3) show excellent writing and speaking skills in English
4) have knowledge on the Arctic/Alpine vegetation, remote sensing and global change impact modelling
5) be motivated to carry out field studies in high-latitude environment for several days.

CNIO International PhD Programme in Cancer Research, Madrid
The “la Caixa”/CNIO International PhD Programme offers cross-disciplinary training in state-of-the-art basic and applied cancer research within an international and very dynamic scientific environment. Ten four-year fellowships will be available during 2011.

-Candidates must have a solid working knowledge of English
